House Hunters

I've decided to start a blog to document the progress of our new home! I figure at the very least my mom, mother-law and sister-in-law will read it =) And it will be a good place for me to keep track of "inspiration rooms" and random ideas that might work for something down the road.

The house was built in 1948 and it's located in Redondo Beach, CA. This was actually the 2nd house we saw when we started our house hunt back in July! We hadn't even officially sold our Austin home yet, but came out to CA to find a rental and do a "what's out there" home search. We immediately ruled this house out based on the funky floor plan (more on that in a minute). It had ample square footage, a nice yard and a great location, but it just seemed like too much work and money to make the house work for us. So, we moved on.

And about 4 months and 40 houses later, our perspective on what we wanted/needed and were willing to put into a house had changed drastically! We had found a cute little (TINY) house in a great neighborhood and while we wanted it to be "the one" we knew we had to put it out of our head b/c even an addition wouldn't have given us the space we needed. We started listing out our priorities in a home and realized we needed to go for a house that had the square footage we were looking for in a neighborhood we loved. We could work on and change anything else. And once we became firm on that, I remembered this house...the 2nd house we had seen. We spent the next few days getting excited about the idea while we called our agent to schedule a second showing.

And to make my long story a little bit longer, we realized this house had what we needed! It would need a lot of work, but it was doable work and we had new ideas for how to rearrange the funky floor plan and make it perfect for us. We got a few bids for the remodel, made an offer and after a LOT of negotiation and anxiety, it all worked out. We closed on December 14th and "demolition" began the next day.

Just one picture of the exterior to conclude this post, then I'm off to do an even longer winded post with pictures of everything, and our plans for the changes!
